The STAR program, an evidence-based intervention to train direct care staff to effectively manage and reduce the problems experienced by persons with dementia and other memory impairments, has recently been translated:

  • A Chinese version was created by one of the School of Nursing visiting professors, Dr. Jing-Jy Sellin Wang, Associate professor Dept. of Nursing & Inst. of Gerontology, College of Medicine, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan.

  • A Spanish version has been created by Dr. Jerson Laks, Associate Professor, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

  • Both the DVD and the manual are now available and will be used to help professionals in these countries train others to improve the care of persons with dementia.
